DrDisrespect Banned on Twitch
Twitch banned its notable streamer Guy”DrDisespect” Beahm on Friday afternoon. No reason has yet been supplied for its ban.
In a statement given to DBLTAP, a Twitch spokesperson said the company was following its standard protocols about offenses of its Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. Additionally, it emphasized that these principles apply to all or any streamers, irrespective of size and popularity.
“As is our procedure, we take proper action when we have proof that a streamer has acted in violation of our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service,” reads the announcement. “These apply to all streamers regardless of visibility or status locally.”
DrDisrespect himself has yet to comment on the ban, and couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
DrDisRespect signed a multi-year contract with Twitch in March reportedly worth tens of thousands of dollars annually. It’s uncertain how the ban affects the conditions of the contract.
DrDisrespect’s ban arrives amid both a flurry of bans handed down by Twitch in reaction to allegations of sexist behaviour and sexual misconduct on its platform and also a renewed effort by digital rights holders to problem takedown requests using the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
Twitch previously disciplined DrDisrespect for loading from inside a public bathroom at E3 2019, suspending his station for two weeks. The short span of that suspension led to criticism of the company’s commitment to implementing its principles when bigger stations — that generate more earnings for Twitch — would be those in violation.
UPDATE 6/26/20 in 4:23 p.m. ET: Rod”Slasher” Breslau reports that sources knowledgeable about the issue say DrDisrespect was eternally banned.
Breslau further claims that the ban is not associated with a DMCA takedown.
Twitch declined to confirm or refuse Breslau’s reporting to DBLTAP. The company also declined to comment on the conditions of the contract between it and DrDisrespect.
